but I thought to myself, the girls must have wandered upstairs...and they are playing so well...I think I'll just finish loading this dishwasher real quick.
I guess the sound of running water drowned out the noise of books crashing to the floor. Every book within their reach had been removed from the bookshelves in our room.
See Lily's feet hiding behind the chair? (That is a chair...completely covered with clothes. Clean clothes on hangars no less. We reorganized our closet and now it takes too long to sort them out to the right place...so there they lay...getting wrinkled. Actually, I can't figure out my husband's system on his side, so those are waiting for him. Sigh.) Anyway, back to subject...Lily quickly hid to let her sister take the fall.
But then she came out to ask if I saw the bridge she made...very proud of it. Nope, I had missed it somehow...oh, there it is. That explains the quiet arranging of books. And Daddy had those all ordered into quite a system too. Second sigh.
Shame on me. I really do know better than to let it get quiet for more than say...30 seconds. After all, it was just recently that Lily had gone quiet and I discovered her busy in the bathroom.
Do you like my make-up, Mama?
Oh my.
I'm all about teachable moments, but discussing the woes of base lines with your four year old just seems a little odd.

It's always when things are too quiet, isn't it? I find it mighty clever of Lily to run and hide and let Jade take the blame.
We had one of those "too quiet" episodes today, too...I thought she was just entertaining herself, but instead she was coloring with her brightest crayons all over some very important work papers of Daddy's. Needless to say he was less than thrilled.
Well - hopefully this is a sign that your girls will be big on reading one day... Let Lily know I think she looks beautiful - even with a base line... Happy Friday!
We have many of those two quiet moments. One time it consisted of a baby dolls bare bottom and a full container of baby powder!
May God bless you and every other person (like me) who live on a daily basis with pre-schoolers. It is not a job for the weak.

dude! can i come over and hop in your tub?! it's awesome! ours is a plain ol' fiberglass little job. :0)
Great to meet ya! Yes, I remember my heart skipping a beat when my girls were younger and I realized it's been too quiet for more than a few minutes.
Aww, bless their hearts! It's time like these you have to just go along and smile :)
I love it! These will all be good stories to tell the girls one day!
BTW, they still get into mommy's makeup when they are say 7 and 10. In fact, I don't think they will stay out of your makeup until they leave the house. My daughter's went with their uncle to a restaurant where his girlfriend works. They had sneaked makeup into my oldest daughter's purse and put it on in the car on the way to the restaurant. One of my brother's friends said that my youngest daughter reminded him of Mimi on the Drew Cary show!
