Charlie went home.

Just a little over a year ago, my step-dad suffered a major stroke.

I contemplated his frustrating loss of speech in this post. It has been a difficult year of seeing him slowly decline and watching my mother care for him in a tireless and selfless manner.

Over the past week it became apparent that his time with us was drawing to a close. Charlie passed away around 5:30 this morning. While we were very sad to let him go, it is a true joy to know that he is no longer suffering. I can once again hear his voice in my head as I imagine him walking the streets of heaven and chatting with everyone in his path. Walking and talking...two things he hasn't been able to do in so long.

I covet your prayers as we walk along side my mom during the funeral planning, visitation, lunch, internment, etc. I don't do any of those things well. Does anyone? Thankfully I don't have much practice under my belt in this area. I just want to be supportive and encouraging to her during this difficult time...trusting that the Lord will show me the best way to do just that.

Kerry, I will be praying for all of you. No, I'm afraid no one is very good at all of the events and emotions that surround funerals. In a way, that is probably a good thing because, "in our weakness HE is strong." I'm praying for peace that passes all understanding, comfort, and grace for all of you.

((hugs)). Dear Lord, we thank you for the assurance we have knowing those who love you and are gone from us are basking in your glory forever. I pray for comfort for Kerry, her mother and her family as they grieve their loss of their stepfather. Give them a clear head as they make funeral arrangements and other plans. Give them peace as they continue in this life without him knowing that they will one day see him again. In Your Precious Son's Name,
Amen

Praying for you and your family. Can't help but think of "precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his saints." (Psalm 116:15)

I think it's really easy to let pride get in the way of emotions during a season of loss. Celebrating Charlie's life and his contributions to your family is OK to be coupled with tears, sobbing, laughing and runny noses. Death is never easy, no matter the circumstance. Praying for His comfort during this time.

Hi Kerry,
We'll be praying for your whole family in this time. If you need anything (meals, childcare etc.) just give us a call (we're in the church directory) and we'd be happy to help out (even on short notice).

Love,
Nick and Anita
